Scoring methodology

1. Product carbon fooprint

The product carbon footprint is a comprehensive calculation that encompasses all stages of the product's life cycle, from its conception to its final disposal. This meticulous process considers various factors that contribute to the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the product:

• Raw materials and origins: Includes the extraction, processing, and transportation of raw materials used in the product's manufacture.
• Manufacturing: Covers all industrial processes involved in transforming raw materials into the final product, including material waste, energy consumption and direct emissions from production.
• Transportation: Considers emissions generated during the distribution of the product from the factory to the point of sale, including different modes of transport such as trucks, ships, or planes.
• Packaging: Evaluates the environmental impact of packaging materials used, their production, and their subsequent management as waste.
• Durability and use cycle: Analyzes emissions associated with the product's use throughout its lifespan, including energy or resource consumption during its operation and maintenance.
• Disposal: Contemplates emissions generated in the final phase of the product's life cycle, including its recycling, incineration, or disposal in landfills.

To ensure the accuracy and consistency of the carbon footprint calculations, we utilize the IPCC Global Warming Potential (GWP 100) methodology as the foundation for evaluating greenhouse gas emissions. This internationally recognized standard assigns a CO₂-equivalent value to all relevant gases, allowing for a precise assessment of their contribution to global warming over a 100-year horizon.
